'The Sensualist' by Ruskin Bond is the victim of this ongoing creative intolerance in India. (Anurag can be said as the favourite victim of this intolerance ). The same thing happened with one of the most powerful piece of metaphorical cinema - Anurag Kashyap's 'No Smoking', even critics bashed it when it was released. If it was a Hollywood film and Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise would have played the titular character of 'Roy' most of Indians must have liked it, even if they are unable to decipher it (the thing which happens with most of the Christopher Nolan films in India, just ask someone to tell the story of Nolan's 'Inception', most of them have watched it but very few of them can tell what the story is). The thing is that no one in India can digest that film like 'Roy' can be made in India. The film' s concept was very good and it demands the viewer to be completely attentive while watching it. įor instance a film released last year called 'Roy', I know the film was not perfect but it was not as bad as people are telling it is. People claim that they want to watch something new, something different but when they get something different or new they reject it. The Indian cinema is one of the victims of this intolerance. I don't know that whether communal/religious intolerance is going on in India or not, but I am now confirmed that there is a 'Creative Intolerance' going on in India for a very long period of time.
