Personally, I quite liked the movie, but I'm not exactly sure what any kind of follow-up could be about outside of involving at least one wild horse fighting against colonization. Apparently, the Spirit in this show is a descendant of the one from the movie, but the 2 works are so wildly (no pun intended) different that this Spirit might as well not be related anyways. It does feel odd for the show to be about adolescent girls riding horses does feel when Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, which was just released over 20 years ago (and making me feel even older), was about a wild horse that couldn't be tamed. I started watching this show during the site's downtime, and the fact that the show first premiered on Netflix more than 5 years ago makes me feel old.
